Inspection of Barrels

 Inspection of Barrels




APPLICABLE TO ALL WEAPONS 

1.Nicklelling. Appears on the barrel surface-lands.Appears as whitish streaks.

2.Pucker. Looks like nickelling-but look on outside of barrel for dents.

3.Slight Bulge. This gives a shadow-also shadow lines do not run straight down the length of the barrel.

4.Bent Barrel. The shadow lines in the barrel will not be regular for the whole length of the shade.

5.Fissuring. Erosion of the lands at the breech end.

6.Cord Wear. Appear at either end.Due to not pulling through straight during cleaning.

7.Corrosion. Eating away of the surface for rust.

8.Cuts. Look like deep scratches.

9.Rust. Shows as brownish discoloration on the surface.

10.Bell-mouthed. A widening of the barrel at the muzzle end.

11.Erosion. Washing away of the surface of the metal by the fierce heat of the burning gasses.Occurs mainly at the "lead"

FMBT

Arjun FMBT Tank


Indian army is all set to replace it's T-72 MBT's(Main Battle Tank) with Arjun FMBT(Future Main Battle Tank).The serial production of these upgraded main battle tank will start in 2014. Indian army is willing to place an order of 124 tanks , which will cost them some thing around 5000 crore.


The upgrade version of Arjun main battle tank is the result of more than 90 up gradations in the previous model.

DRDO will carry the first phase trials in June this year.


 

Modified Features of Arjun FMBT

  • Explosive Armour reactive panel - To prevent top and side attacks from missiles and propelled grenades.
  • New Engine - 1500 Horsepower.
  • Weight - 50 tonnes.
  • Advance air defense gun system - To destroy long range targets and attack helicopters.
  • Panormic sight - For night vision.
  • Automatic Tracking system.
  • Mobile Camouflaging System(MCS) - To help the tank reduce the threat of  interference from all type of sensors and small munitions.
  • Laser Warning control system - DRDO is working on LWCS with the collaboration of Elbit limited of Israel.

FUTURE of Arjun Tank

As Indian Army is all set to place an initial order after the initial trails, DRDO is planning a 2 phase production.

In phase 1 , 45 tanks will roll out with 56 upgrades,including the missile firing capability and commanders panormic sight with night vision.

In phase 2, the remaining 79 tanks ,with all the 93 improvements ,will come off assembly line.


By 2013-2014 ,the first batch of 30 tanks will come out.

BMP2 Sarath

BMP2 Sarath


BMP2 is a second generation war machine.It is the modified version of BMP1 ,which was originally built by Soviet Union during 1961-1965.Now it's being used in many countries all over the world including India.India has developed its own version under the name BMP2 'Sarath'.
This war machine is basically a armored personal carrier mounted with a machine gun on top.

100 of these ICV(Infantry Carrier Vehicles) are being added every year and there are around 1000 BMP2 in active service.

Weapons of BMP-2 Sarath


The main armament is a 30mm 2A42 auto cannon with dual ammunition feed,which provide the operator an option between 3UBR6 AP-T and 3UOR6 HE-T / 3UOF8 HE-I ammunition.The Gun is provided with the stabilization control,which make it highly accurate while moving.It's rate of fire is 550 rounds per minute.

The AP-T ammunition can penetrate 15 mm of armour at 60 degree at 1500 metre while a new APDS-T tungsten round can penetrate 25 mm from a same distance.A typical ammunition load is 160 rounds of AP ammunition and 340 rounds of HE ammunition.This gun can be fired from either the commander or the gunner station.

The commanders 1PZ-3 site is specially designed for firing on Helicopters or slow air crafts.The turret can rotate 360degree in 10.28 seconds and elevation through 74degree in 12.33 seconds.


Future of BMP2


The future of BMP2 is not looking so bright as it's design is said to have many flows.The main problem is the design of it's fuel tank.Its designers have placed it's fuel tanks between the 2 rows of outward facing passenger seats.It means the infantry soldiers are sitting on fuel tanks and in case those fuel tanks got hit and catches fire then there is possibility of soldiers death.

The extra fuel is carried in the hollow side doors,which make the situation worse.A accurate hit can cause the painful death of Infantry soldiers inside.

BMP is also considered much lighter and weakly armed then it's other competitor's such as BTR-T.
Due to these limitations Indian army is also seeking it's replacement in near future and hence they are working on a project to prepare FICV(Future Infantry Carrier Vehicle).

Infantry

Infantry 

Infantry is a unit of army, which is trained to fight on foot.It is the most flexible and highly trained unit of any army,hence called the backbone of army.Infantry soldiers are often carry higher physical standards than others. Infantry is called 'Queen of the battle' as they are the foot soldiers who holds the captured towns, territories and men.An Infantry men can reach, operate and survive in any kind of terrain.  Infantry soldiers are mostly trained for face to face combat,patrolling and security.They are also trained to use Infantry support weapons or crew-served weapons.



Weaponry of an Infantry man include many weapons that can be carried and used individually or in a small crew.These weapons include:- Rifles, Grenades, Sub-machine Guns,Machine Guns, Shoulder fired rocket launcher, Light mortar, Grenade launcher, Gas mask, Additional Body Armour

The basic organization of Infantry is battalion which further consist of 6 companies. Each company has its own Supporting weapons and motor transport.

NAMICA

NAMICA

NAMICA(Nag missile carrier) is a advanced and modified version of BMP-2 ICV.It is developed as a launcher for anti-tank Nag missiles(land to land).It's trails were successfully conducted by DRDO in Indragandhi canal,Rajsthan in August 2008.

NAG MISSILS

NAG MISSILES

Nag is a third generation,anti tank,self guided missile developed in India by DRDO(Defense Research and Development Organization).This missile was developed under the Integrated guided missile development program.

DRDO has planned to develop this missile in 3 versions.
1. Wire guided version.
2. Infra Red version.
3. Milli metric wave version.

Infra red version missiles are already being developed,while works are going on for the development of other 2 versions.

20 mm caliber weapons are typically used against large targets such as Buildings,Moving vehicles  and aircrafts.It is the smallest caliber ,which is a auto cannon but not a heavy machine.

20mm caliber has an inside barrel diameter of 0.8 inch(20 mm) and they are commonly 75-100 mm long.

INDIA SUCCESFULLY TESTED ITS MISSILE INTERCEPTER

As a part of Multi-layer ballistic Missile Defense system(BMD), Defense ministry test launched its indigenous missile tracking and destroying system on Sunday from Integrated test range(ITR),Orissa.

India is now part of elite group of nations having their own Missile intercepting functional system including China.The  Defense officers looked delightful and declared the test ,a complete success.


A modified Surface to Surface Prithvi Missile was first fired from Chandipur Integrated test range which was then tracked down and blown  into pieces by the Interceptor.
It was not only the test for missile working but also for Advanced Air Defense system(ADA), which include tracking and following the intruder missiles.
