The Parachute Regiment
The Indian Parachute regiment was formed on 1 May 1945 consisting of 4 battalions and an equal no. of independent companies.
After the Independence the airborne battalion was split and 55th and 70th brigade remain in India with 6 para battalions.On 15th April 1952, the Parachute regiment was re-raised by absorbing 3 battalions namely
- The Punjab Regiment(PARA)
- The Maratha Regiment(PARA)
- The Kumaon Regiment(PARA)
On 01 May 1962,a training wing of Parachute Regiment was formed in Kota under the
Brigade of the guards training center and thus start the direct recruitment and training for the Parachute regiment.After that the training center of Parachute regiment shifted to many locations but finally on 15th Jan 1992 , the center along with the pay and record and account office moved to Bangalore,which seems to be a key location.
